adidas Presents boost

Last week, adidas debuted its boost technology at Innovation Day in New York.  Below is the full broadcast, which can also be seen at http://new.livestream.com/adidas/energyboost.

The new boost material is designed to give the best cushioning to any running show ever.  In praising the shoe, James Carnes, creative director of sport performance at adidas, said "...there is nothing on this planet in running that gives you a higher energy return".

NowThis News

A few nights ago at the New York Video MeetUp (#NYVM for the Twitter audience) I saw a great presentation from Drake and Jason at NowThis News.

For some background, NowThis Media is a company that takes available video on the web (feeds from the govt, Reuters, AP, etc.) and then edits sound bites or puts their own spin on the video.  They also have a full production studio where they create topical videos from scratch.  The videos tend to be short, funny, and smart, but most importantly shareable.

Jason and Drake presented the mobile app, which allows for easier mobile viewing and sharing of their clips.

One of the interesting things about NowThis media is that they have their own tech team and use their own player, which allows for potential interactive/live video segments without 3rd party integration needed.  Typically, independent production companies that produce and distribute their own content make use of YouTube or another platform as a host, which allows for sharing to a wider audience and no team of developers.  NowThis's vertical integration ensures they control it all.

Will this lack of a 3rd party distribution method hurt or help them?

I'm interested to see how they use the technical aspects of the company to their advantage.
