2013 GoPro Edit

I realized I had some GoPro footage from just about every month of 2013, so I edited it into this highlight montage. Starting off with a New Years Eve celebration in Chinatown we move to skiing in Utah, a bachelor's party in Las Vegas, the World's Largest Pillow Fight in Manhattan, a beach trip to Sea Island, the Governor's Ball Concert, a wedding in Savannah, trips to Delaware, New Orleans, and Wisconsin, the Georgia Florida pre-game beach party, and Santacon in New York. There's a lot of footage that didn't make the cut, and many more moments I wish I could have captured on camera. I'm fortunate to be able to go so many places and do so many things with friends and family. Looking forward to 2014.

Microsoft Gears of War Super Video Ad

As part of the Super Creative Video Ad Challenge, brands and advertisers have been invited to submit Super Pre-Roll and Super Pre-Roll Takeover units to be judged.

Here's one unit from the Microsoft Gears of War campaign I worked on.

Watch it HERE and give it 5 stars.

The ad is age-gated, prompting users to enter their DOB after engaging with the overlay to gain access to the extra content. The engagement slate contains a gallery, is full of social features, and allows for a user to control a soldier and shoot apart the ad.

Tough Mudder

My friend completed the Tri State Tough Mudder in Englishtown, New Jersey last month, and did so with my GoPro on his head.  Although the battery died before the end, I was able to edit some of the footage.
This highlight real includes jumping through fire, swimming in under barbed wire, and lots of mud.

adidas Presents boost

Last week, adidas debuted its boost technology at Innovation Day in New York.  Below is the full broadcast, which can also be seen at http://new.livestream.com/adidas/energyboost.

The new boost material is designed to give the best cushioning to any running show ever.  In praising the shoe, James Carnes, creative director of sport performance at adidas, said "...there is nothing on this planet in running that gives you a higher energy return".

NowThis News

A few nights ago at the New York Video MeetUp (#NYVM for the Twitter audience) I saw a great presentation from Drake and Jason at NowThis News.

For some background, NowThis Media is a company that takes available video on the web (feeds from the govt, Reuters, AP, etc.) and then edits sound bites or puts their own spin on the video.  They also have a full production studio where they create topical videos from scratch.  The videos tend to be short, funny, and smart, but most importantly shareable.

Jason and Drake presented the mobile app, which allows for easier mobile viewing and sharing of their clips.

One of the interesting things about NowThis media is that they have their own tech team and use their own player, which allows for potential interactive/live video segments without 3rd party integration needed.  Typically, independent production companies that produce and distribute their own content make use of YouTube or another platform as a host, which allows for sharing to a wider audience and no team of developers.  NowThis's vertical integration ensures they control it all.

Will this lack of a 3rd party distribution method hurt or help them?

I'm interested to see how they use the technical aspects of the company to their advantage.
